In the summer of 1844, Garnet Cameron graduated from Miss Wayne's
Select Academy for Young Ladies. This was a boarding-school on a
country estate in upper Manhattan, and Garnet had been a pupil
there for four years. On graduation day she was awarded three
medals: for music, horsemanship, and politeness.
