HUMPHREY GIFFORD
English poet
(1550 - 1600)

Divine Philosophy! by whose pure light
  We first distinguish, then pursue the right;
    Thy power the breast from every error frees,
      And weeds out all its vices by degrees.
      - [Philosophy]

Fond man! though all the heroes of your line
  Bedeck your halls, and round your galleries shine
    In proud display; yet take this truth from me--
      Virtue alone is true nobility!
      - [Nobility]

Virtue alone is true nobility.
      - [Virtue]

I cannot say the crow is white,
  But needs must call a spade a spade.
      - A Woman's Face is Full of Wiles [Names]
