ST. JOHN CHRYSOSTOM
Greek writer and Father of the Church
(c. 345 - 407)

As a moth gnaws a garment, so doth envy consume a man.
      - [Envy]

Charity is the scope of all God's commands.
      - [Charity]

Consider how august a privilege it is, when angels are present, and archangels throng around, when cherubim and seraphim encircle with their blaze the throne, that a mortal may approach with unrestrained confidence, and converse with heaven's dread Sovereign! O, what honor was ever conferred like this?
      - [Prayer]

Depart from the highway, and transplant thyself in some enclosed ground; for it is hard for a tree that stands by the wayside to keep her fruit till it be ripe.
      - [Retirement]

Hell is paved with priests' skulls.
      - [Hell]

Humility is the root, mother, nurse, foundation, and bond of all virtue.
      - [Humility]

Intemperance is a hydra with a hundred heads. She never stalks abroad unaccompanied with impurity, anger, and the most infamous profligacies.
      - [Intemperance]

It is a shame for a man to desire honor because of his noble progenitors, and not to deserve it by his own virtue.
      - [Ancestry]

Such is friendship, that through it we love places and seasons; for as bright bodies emit rays to a distance, and flowers drop their sweet leaves on the ground around them, so friends impart favor even to the places where they dwell. With friends even poverty is pleasant. Words cannot express the joy which a friend imparts; they only can know who have experienced. A friend is dearer than the light of heaven, for it would be better for us that the sun were exhausted than that we should be without friends.
      - [Friendship]

That is true plenty, not to have, but not to want riches.
      - [Contentment]

The Jews were God's chosen people.
      - [Jews]

This, then, appears to be the solution of our trinitarian difficulty; to concentrate our thoughts and our affections on God the Son as He is revealed to us in Christ; to adore Him as the Creator, Preserver, all-wise Ruler and Redeemer of the world; to worship Him as the ever-present King and Head of His Church; and to look forward to the eternal enjoyment of His presence in heaven, as the consummation of our happiness, as "all our salvation and all our desire." "Almighty God, who hast given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplications unto Thee, and dost promise that when two or three are gathered together in Thy name, Thou wilt grant their requests, fulfil now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of Thy servants, as may be most expedient for them; granting us in this world knowledge of Thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen."
      - A Prayer of St. Chrysostom
        [Trinity Sunday]
