Adversity is a medicine which people are rather fond of
recommending indiscriminately as a panacea for their neighbors.
Like other medicines, it only agrees with certain constitutions.
There are nerves which it braces, and nerves which it utterly
shatters.
- [Adversity]

darkness, like the ray of a diamond; but there are others whose
virtues are only brought out by the light, like the colors of a
silk.
- [Goodness]
