It is an active flame that flies
First to the babies in the eyes.
      - The Kiss [Eyes]

The starres of the night
  Will lend thee their light,
    Like tapers cleare without number.
      - The Night Piece [Stars]

Her eyes the glow-worme lend thee,
  The shooting starres attend thee;
    And the elves also,
      Whose little eyes glow
Like the sparks of fire, befriend thee.
      - The Night Piece to Julia [Eyes]

Praise they that will times past, I joy to see
My selfe now live: this age best pleaseth mee.
      - The Present Time Best Pleaseth [Past]

Some ask'd how pearls did grow, and where,
Then spoke I to my girle,
To part her lips, and showed them there
      The quarelets of pearl.
      - The Rock of Rubies, and the Quarrie of Pearls
        [Dentistry]

Some asked me where the rubies grew,
  And nothing I did say,
But with my finger pointed to
      The lips of Julia.
      - The Rock of Rubies, and the Quarrie of Pearls
        [Mouth]

But ne'er the rose without the thorn.
      - The Rose [Roses]

Bid me to live, and I will live
  The Protestant to be:
Or bid me love, and I will give
      A loving heart to thee,
A heart as soft, a heart as kind,
A heart as sound and free
As in the whole world thou canst find,
That heart I'll give to thee.
      - To Anthea, who may command him anything
         (no. 268) [Love]

Faire pledges of a fruitful tree
Why do yee fall so fast?
Your date is not so past
But you may stay yet here awhile
        To blush and gently smile
          And go at last.
      - To Blossoms [Flowers]

Oft have I heard both youths and virgins say,
Birds chuse their mates and couple too this day:
But by their flight I never can devine
When I shall couple with my valentine.
      - To his Valentine, on St. Valentine's Day
        [Valentines]

Why doe ye weep, sweet babes? Can tears
  Speak griefe in you,
    Who were but borne
      Just as the modest morne
        Teemed her refreshing dew?
      - To Primroses [Primroses]

Welcome, maids of honor,
  You doe bring
    In the spring,
      And wait upon her.
      - To Violets [Violets]

Here she lies a pretty bud,
  Lately made of flesh and blood;
Who, as soone fell fast asleep,
As her little eyes did peep.
Give her strewings, but not stir
The earth that lightly covers her.
      - Upon a Child that Dyed [Epitaphs]

Her pretty feet
  Like snails did creep
    A little out, and then,
As if they played at bo-peep
        Did soon draw in agen.
      - Upon her Feet [Feet]
